Ndume Exposes Nigeria’s Deep Poverty in Viral Video

Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has shared a chilling video of Nigerians lining up outside President Bola Tinubu’s Lagos residence for palliative handouts on Christmas Eve.

The video, posted on Ndume’s X account on Christmas day, starkly captures long queues, symbolising the deepening poverty affecting the nation.

“Queues for presidential handouts at Bourdillon on Christmas Eve highlight a sobering reality. Poverty is a universal challenge that demands collective action and sustainable solutions,” Ndume wrote.

The senator’s post came on the heels of a tragic sequence of deadly stampedes during palliative distributions in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory, resulting in at least 60 fatalities. These events underscore the growing desperation among Nigerians facing a severe cost-of-living crisis.

Ndume’s statement challenges the misconception that poverty is an issue isolated to northern Nigeria. “The reality of poverty is felt nationwide, even in the South and we must confront it together,” he stressed.

The rise in poverty has been linked to the current administration’s economic policies, which many argue have exacerbated hardships since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2024.

As Nigerians struggle with soaring inflation and unemployment rates, the nation grapples with the consequences of an economic system that critics say is failing to provide sustainable solutions for its citizens.
