Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that all African nationals will soon enjoy visa-free entry to the country, fulfilling a promise made earlier this year.
The policy, set to take effect before Akufo-Addo’s term ends on January 6, 2025, aims to improve continental mobility and economic integration.
Speaking at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) 2024, Akufo-Addo reiterated the importance of this new visa-free policy, particularly in enhancing economic growth through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
“The ease of movement is vital for driving trade and collaboration across Africa,” he said, addressing the barriers African citizens face when traveling within their own continent. “Many of you had to acquire a visa to attend this event,” Akufo-Addo stated, underlining the issue the new policy seeks to address.
Ghana joins a select group of African nations like Rwanda, Seychelles, the Gambia, and Benin that have already implemented similar visa-free access for all African passport holders.
The policy aims to stimulate intra-African trade and support the broader AfCFTA objectives by reducing travel barriers.
