Polytechnic Lauds Kaduna Gov for Raising Lecturers’ Retirement Age to 65

Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, has commended Governor Uba Sani for increasing the retirement age of academic staff from 60 to 65 years.

The move, which aligns with the Governor’s broader education policies, aims to enhance the welfare of lecturers and strengthen the educational system in Kaduna State.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Rector of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Dr. Mohammed Kabir Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the Governor for this progressive decision. “This milestone represents a significant step in improving access to education and the welfare of our staff,” Abdullahi said, stating the positive impact of the policy on both staff and students.

Governor Sani’s decision followed an executive order issued last Thursday, which extended the retirement age for academic staff at state-owned tertiary institutions in Kaduna, provided they meet the necessary requirements.

This was the result of consultations between the Governor, institutional management, and the leadership of academic unions during a meeting held the previous week.

The Rector also praised Governor Sani for his other education reforms, including the reduction of student registration fees within his first three months in office. “These policies reflect the Governor’s commitment to advancing education in the state and supporting the academic community,” Abdullahi added.

The Polytechnic reaffirmed its support for Governor Sani’s administration, as well as for the efforts of the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Muhammad Sani Bello, and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Nubapoly Chapter
