Kano state Government has vowed it will begin to prosecute all tax defaulters in coming year of 2025 as part of its major reform in the tax administration.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Governor Abbah Yusuf spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa in Kaduna.
The statement said Dr. Zaid Abubakar, Executive Chairman of Kano State Internal Revenue Services (KIRS) during a presentation to the Governor at the ongoing High Level Retreat for top governments officials.
Dr. Zaid Abubakar futher said, the reform is not targeted at increasing tax, but rather increasing the effeciency of collection and compliance to the tax administration.
According to the statement, Kano has projected the generation of over twenty billion naira within every quarter of 2025.
It could be recalled that Governor Yusuf has releived the immediate past chairman of the revenue service and appointed a new management structure, a decision that has significantly turned around the performance of the agency in third and fouth quarter of the 2024.
To ensure effective reform in the revenue generation the Governor would commission a new model of tax collection that will guarantee significant increase in revenue generation for the 2025 fiscal year to fulfil the campaign promises across various critical sectors of human endeavour.
