A Magistrate court in Ekiti State has granted lawyer Dele Farotimi ₦30 million bail.

Farotimi’s bail conditions on Friday, include a ₦30 million bond, two sureties (one of whom must be a property owner), submission of his passport, and a prohibition on granting media interviews.

The court’s decision comes after Farotimi was taken into custody following a petition from Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), alleging that Farotimi published defamatory statements in his book, “Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System”.

Farotimi’s arrival at the Ekiti Magistrate Court was met with heavy security, comprising policemen and other law enforcement agents.

Before the bail was granted, the Magistrate Court and the prosecutor expressed concerns about their safety due to a large crowd milling around the courtroom premises.

Farotimi’s case has garnered significant attention, and further updates are expected to follow.
