NAFDAC Destroys Contaminated Bioflex Infusions as ABUTH Raises the Alarm

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has swiftly addressed a serious consumer complaint from Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, by taking firm measures against contaminated medical products.

The grievance concerning Bioflex infusions provided by Biomedical Company Limited in Ilorin pointed out the existence of suspended particles, leading to a prompt inquiry by NAFDAC’s North-West Zonal Office (NWZ).

In a statement released to Africa Health Report (AHR) on Tuesday, NAFDAC announced that recent laboratory analyses revealed the infusions failed sterility tests, posing significant health risks.

Addressing the issue, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health.

“Ensuring the safety and quality of medical products remains our top priority, and we will not hesitate to withdraw any product that threatens lives,” NAFDAC stated.

With the approval of Director-General Dadi Nantim M., the NWZ managed the disposal of 828 cartons of contaminated Bioflex infusions. This process included removing the infusions from their secondary packaging, crushing and burying the products, and incinerating the cartons to ensure thorough disposal.

NAFDAC called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious medical products, emphasizing, “Public cooperation is crucial to safeguarding health standards in the country.”
