In the early hours of Monday, a fire broke out and ravaged part of the Trademore Estate Market in Lugbe, Abuja. While the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and fire service teams responded quickly to put out the fire, a witness has claimed that a power surge caused the incident.

Mrs. Felicia, an observer of the incident, stated that the market was already ablaze by the time the fire department arrived. “It was due to high voltage,” she explained to Africa Health Report (AHR). “The fire was raging when they the fire service got there, but they arrived too late. The damage was extensive pretty much everything was affected.”

Manzo Ezekiel, a spokesperson for NEMA, verified the occurrence, noting that he was notified at approximately 4 a.m. and promptly reached out to emergency services. “Fortunately, we were able to act quickly, and the fire service arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames,” Ezekiel stated.

He mentioned that there have been no reported casualties, but he could not share additional information as he is presently on assignment in Sokoto.
