The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is intensifying its efforts to prevent corruption.
According to a statement signed by the Commission’s Spokesperson, Demola Bakare, The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), Speaking at a National Policy Dialogue on Anti-Corruption, emphasized that “Experience has shown that preventive measures have helped to reduce corrupt practices.”
Dr. Aliyu stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, saying, “There is no single arm of government or tier of government or agency that can fight corruption alone” He added that “We need to come together locally, regionally, and internationally to fight corruption.”
He cited a recent example of successful collaboration between the ICPC and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), which led to the discovery and blocking of $300,000 meant for students in the ICT sector.
He explained, “It was the synergy between us and BPP that led to the discovery of a strange thing that was happening in respect to a certain fund earmarked for students in the ICT sector.”
The ICPC Chairman encouraged agencies to work together to strengthen preventive approaches, saying, “I am encouraging us across all agencies to open up to one another. This will help us in streamlining what we are doing.”
