The joint task force of Operation DELTA SAFE in Nigeria’s South-South region has successfully recovered over 909,000 litres of stolen crude oil in the past two weeks, according to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations.
The operation, aimed at safeguarding the nation’s economic assets, also seized 71,060 litres of illegally refined AGO and 13,580 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Speaking in Abuja on Friday, General Buba detailed the ongoing military actions, revealing the destruction of 93 crude oil cooking ovens, 12 dugout pits, and 37 boats.
He added that 127 drums, 41 storage tanks, and 82 illegal refining sites were equally dismantled.
Among the items seized were four speedboats, three HH radios, five mobile phones, and 14 vehicles.
“Six kidnapped hostages were rescued, and 30 suspected oil thieves and violent extremists were apprehended during the operations,” General Buba stated. “We also recovered two magazines, four assorted arms, and 21 rounds of ammunition.”
In a separate operation in the Southeast, troops from Operation UDO KA neutralised 10 terrorists, arrested 11 violent extremists, and rescued eight hostages.
The operation also led to the recovery of several firearms, including AK47 rifles and pump action guns, as well as ammunition and communications equipment.
“All recovered items, arrested suspects, and rescued hostages were handed over to the relevant authorities for further action,” Buba confirmed.
