Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has reiterated that for a leader to fight corruption to minimum decimal, he most stand on his feet, stressing that ‘ I’m already on my feet.”
He added that implementation of minimum wage will be sustained due to the state transparency and accountability crusade.
He made the statement while receiving executive members of Nigeria Labour Congress who are in the state for stakeholders meeting at his office Kano Government House.
A statement issued by Governor’s spokesman Malam Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Wednesday quoted him emphasising that if not on my feet, the development you are seeing everywhere could not be possible.
Governor Yusuf revealed that before the signing of the basic salary into law, all the financial records of the state were scrutinized to ensure whenever the implementation started it would not be stopped.
The governor noted that based on that all sources of corruption and financial leakages in the state were blocked to ensure honesty in the present administration policies.
He told the visitors that minimum wage implementation is not easy task in the state especially if one considers the meagre Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the additional burden of over N6 billion monthly to sustain the increment.
The governor however said despite this gesture, his administration would not let others citizens to suffer, assuring that measures are being taken to ensure improvement in the IGR.
Governor Yusuf told the NLC executives that present government takes education with seriousness, informing them that a Postgraduate Scholarship Programme of 1001 students is on progress .
He revealed that out of the number 600 students were sponsored to study Masters Degree abroad whereby most of them have completed with flying colours and the remaining are coming by December ending
The governor disclosed that by next week God Willing he would visit India to meet with the students studying their with a view to finding out the progress so far.
He said 26 Entrepreneur Institutions were revived to train the state teeming youth on different skills in order to make them productivity.
On his part, NLC Chairman, Mr. Joe Ajaero commended the governor for his concern to the state people, appealing to others to follow the suit.
