The Federal Government has announced plans to digitize Nigeria’s grazing reserves, cattle routes, and dams inventories.
This initiative is part of the administration’s broader goal to modernize the livestock sector and address longstanding farmer-herder conflicts.
Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Muktar Idi Maiha, revealed this during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Livestock Development.
The digitization project aims to improve the efficiency of livestock management, reduce conflicts, and enhance the overall value chain.
The ministry has already conducted a comprehensive assessment of existing grazing reserves and routes.
The findings will be used to develop new routes that are farther away from urban centers, minimizing potential conflicts with farming communities.
Alhaji Maiha emphasized the potential economic benefits of the government’s livestock development initiatives, stating that they could create thousands of jobs and boost Nigeria’s GDP.
The House Committee on Livestock Development, chaired by Mr. Raji Olawale, expressed its commitment to working closely with the ministry to ensure the successful implementation of these policies and programs.
By digitizing grazing reserves and cattle routes, the government hopes to create a more sustainable and efficient livestock sector, addressing the challenges that have plagued the industry for years.
