The former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has honoured the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged misappropriation of funds.
Africa Health Report (AHR) gathered that Bello arrived at the EFCC office on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his lawyers.
He drove himself to the office in a black Hilux, following speculations last week that he would visit the EFCC.
Bello’s visit to the EFCC comes after the Supreme Court dismissed a case challenging the constitutionality of the anti-graft agency.
This development has paved the way for the EFCC to proceed with investigations and prosecutions.
The former governor’s appearance at the EFCC office is seen as a significant step towards addressing the allegations of misappropriation of funds levelled against him.
The EFCC had previously declared Bello wanted over alleged money laundering charges to the tune of N80.2 billion.
The commission has been investigating Bello’s financial dealings during his tenure as governor.
The case is ongoing, with the EFCC seeking an adjournment to November 27 for the arraignment of Bello.
The EFCC has admitted Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, to administrative bail and has prayed to the court for an extension of time for Bello to appear.
The outcome of the case will be closely watched, as it has significant implications for the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
