Ebonyi Governor Cracks Down on Alleged Sabotage in Health Sector

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has revealed an alleged scheme concerning the unlawful sale of government health supplies, condemning it as a betrayal of initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s healthcare system.

In a statement on Sunday, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Monday Uzor, reported that Governor Nwifuru discovered the situation while conducting a standard project inspection.

He came across a Toyota Dyana truck filled with patient registers, medical cards, and various official documents at the Ministry of Health’s warehouse.

Subsequent inquiries uncovered that the supplies intended for hospitals and health centers throughout the state were sold without proper authorization. The governor expressed disapproval of this situation, highlighting its detrimental effect on healthcare services in rural areas.

This is an act of sabotage,” Governor Nwifuru stated on-site. “Our rural hospitals urgently require these supplies, but those entrusted with their protection are unlawfully selling them. After investing over N6 billion to enhance our healthcare system, I find such treachery within it.

Police have arrested six people, including Ndukwe Ayansi, in relation to the incident and are investigating them. The governor has pledged that his administration will work to eliminate corruption and ensure accountability in the health sector.

“Our rural hospitals are in need of registers, data entry forms, and hospital cards. Unfortunately, the supplies provided by the government are being sold by you,” Governor Nwifuru stated on-site.
