The National Population Commission (NPC) in Zamfara State, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), has launched the 2024 Verbal and Social Autopsy (VASA) survey.

This initiative aims to gather crucial data on the causes of under-five and maternal deaths in the state.

During a press conference held on Tuesday (today) at the NPC headquarters in Gusau, Federal Commissioner Muhammad Muttaka Rini emphasized the significance of VASA in improving maternal and child health. He explained that trained data collectors will conduct interviews with family members to understand the circumstances surrounding these tragic deaths.

Rini urged the public to cooperate with the survey teams, stating that their participation is vital to the success of the initiative.

He appealed to community leaders to encourage residents to welcome the interviewers and share their experiences openly.

By understanding the underlying causes of maternal and child mortality, the government and health authorities can implement targeted interventions to reduce these rates and improve the overall health and well-being of the population.
