Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to contractors handling various housing projects, emphasizing the need for timely completion.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has made it clear that any contractor failing to deliver on schedule will face contract termination and blacklisting.
This move aims to address the state’s housing deficit and provide affordable homes for its citizens.
The warning comes after an inspection of the Sangotedo Housing Estate Eti Osa phase 2, where Commissioner for Housing, Hon Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work.
Contractors have been directed to increase their speed, with the Governor emphasizing that delays will no longer be tolerated. Engineer Abdulhafis Toriola, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, also urged contractors to deliver quality projects on schedule.
The Lagos State Ministry of Housing is working on multiple projects, including Ajara, Badagry, Ibeshe scheme 2 Ikorodu, Ita Marun, Epe, and Egan Igando cluster 2 and 3. These projects are expected to be delivered during this administration’s tenure.
With the state government’s focus on addressing the housing deficit, contractors are expected to prioritize quality and efficiency.
The Sangotedo Housing Estates phase 2, upon completion, will comprise 43 blocks and add over 500 home units to the existing stock.
This project, along with others, is crucial in reducing the state’s housing deficit.
