In a bid to improve billing accuracy and enhance customer satisfaction, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced the rollout of 1,880 prepaid meters to Band A customers as part of the Meter Asset Funds (MAF) Scheme.
This strategic initiative follows the cessation of electricity subsidies for Band A customers in April and aims to bring more transparency to energy consumption billing.
The company’s Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, confirmed the development in an official statement on Tuesday.
“Yola Electricity Distribution Company is pleased to announce the commencement of providing meters under the Meter Acquisition Funds programme.
This initiative, targeting unmetered Band A customers within YEDC’s franchise area, is part of our ongoing efforts to provide accurate billing and improve customer satisfaction,” Tunoh noted.
The distribution plan includes the deployment of 1,500 single-phase meters and 380 three-phase meters, all approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The MAF project, launched on June 13, 2024, is an extension of the Presidential Metering Initiative, which was developed to accelerate the nationwide metering of electricity consumers.
The company emphasized that customers would not bear any costs for the meters. “The meters under this framework will be installed at no cost to YEDC customers.
We urge all Band A customers to cooperate with the installers visiting their homes and business premises during the metering exercise,” the statement added.
YEDC further reiterated its dedication to improving the quality of electricity distribution and maintaining transparent, reliable service delivery across its customer base.
The company called on residents to support the metering initiative as a step toward more accurate and fair energy usage billing.
