Kano State has announced plans to enhance its technological infrastructure by establishing Computer-Based Testing (CBT) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centers in all 44 local government areas (LGAs).
The commitment was revealed in a statement signed by Auwalu Garba, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Kano State.
The announcement came during the 2024 Science and Technology Week and World Science Day celebrations, which carried the theme “Global Science for Global Wellbeing.”
State Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo Othman, highlighted the importance of science and technology in fostering innovation and societal development.
“We are setting up CBT and ICT centers in every LGA, with a pilot project to launch this year,” he stated.
In addition to the CBT and ICT centers, Kano State plans to establish ICT and industrial parks aimed at promoting innovation and curbing rural-urban migration.
The goal is to create an environment conducive to technological growth, which will also help to attract investment and create jobs.
To build a robust tech ecosystem, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation is working closely with the Ministry of Education to incorporate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education into school curricula.
This initiative seeks to nurture a new generation of innovators and problem-solvers in the state.
The 2024 Science and Technology Week also honored prominent figures from Kano’s scientific community, including Professor Dr. Musa Borodo, Professor Abdullahi Uba Adamu, Engr. Dr. M.B. Shehu, Dr. Hauwa Musa Abdullahi, and Alhaji Tajudden Gambo, for their contributions to the advancement of science and technology in the state.
