PSC Deploys Monitors to Ondo for Governorship Election

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed staff monitors to Ondo State to ensure the credibility of the governorship election security.

According to a press release issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani on Thursday, the monitors, who arrived in Akure, will be stationed in all local government areas to ensure that police officers conduct themselves within approved rules and regulations.

According to the Commission Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, the monitors are expected to conduct themselves creditably and not succumb to pressure.

“Holding the police accountable for their actions and inactions during the election will promote greater dedication to duty by the officers and generally ensure the success of the elections,” Argungu said.

The PSC Chairman charged police officers to be firm but friendly and polite to the electorate, stressing that they must ensure that voters, voting materials, and the voting environment are protected and safe.

“The police, as the lead agency in internal security, which includes election security, must play a leadership role in ensuring a free, fair, and credible election in Ondo State,” Argungu emphasized.

In preparation for the assignment, the Commission conducted a workshop on election security monitoring, where CP Balarabe Nayaya presented a paper to the traveling monitors.

The Commission has also provided dedicated telephone numbers for Nigerians to call and report any concerns or commend the conduct of the police during the election.
