Nigerian Troops Dismantle 43 Illegal Oil Bunkering Hubs, Arrest 19 Suspects

The Nigerian military has dealt a significant blow to oil bunkering operations in the Niger Delta Region, dismantling 43 illegal hubs and arresting 19 suspects between November 4-10, 2024.

This was disclosed in a press statement on Sunday signed by Lieutenant-Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations.

The operation also resulted in the confiscation of over 260,000 liters of stolen products, 11 vehicles, 21 boats, and 11 motorcycles used for stealing crude.

In Rivers State, troops dismantled seven active illegal refining hubs in Abesa and Kula, seizing over 60,000 liters of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

Similar operations in Buguma Creeks and Ogbonga Forest led to the destruction of four active illegal refining hubs, eight large cooking pots, and the recovery of over 12,500 liters of stolen products.

The operation also extended to Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa States, where troops intercepted tankers, vehicles, and boats carrying stolen products.

In Akwa Ibom, two tankers with over 96,000 liters of stolen products were seized, while in Delta State, a tanker truck loaded with 45,000 liters was intercepted.

The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, commended the troops and urged them to sustain the tempo to clear the region of economic saboteurs and increase oil production in Nigeria.
