FG Allocates over N20b for Renovation of VP Shettima’s Residence Amid Outcry over Hardship

In just one year, the federal government has spent over N20 billion for the renovation and improvement of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s official residences in Abuja and Lagos.

As reported by the government spending tracking platform, GovSpend, a recent allocation of N5.03 billion has been earmarked for renovations at the Lagos residence. This funding is included in the N2.17 trillion supplementary budget approved in November 2023.

The platform revealed that Denderi Investment Limited received N2.8 billion for renovation work in May 2024, and additional payments exceeding N2.2 billion were made in September to support the continuation of Phase 2 of the upgrades.

The Lagos project comes after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) allocated N15 billion in November 2023 for building a new residence for the Vice President in Abuja.

FCTA Minister Nyesom Wike made this announcement during a House of Representatives meeting, where he supported the N61.5 billion supplementary budget for 2023.

This significant expenditure has raised eyebrows across the country, with many Nigerians questioning whether such lavish spending is appropriate given the country’s economic struggles.
