NAFDAC Seizes Counterfeit Agrochemicals Worth N5m in Bauchi

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit agrochemicals worth N5 million during a recent operation in Bauchi Metropolis.

The operation targeted counterfeit versions of the widely used agricultural product Patriarc, a pesticide and fertilizer combination designed to boost crop yields and protect plants from pests and diseases.

According to NAFDAC’s official statement posted on its Facebook page over the weekend, the operation resulted in the sealing of three facilities and the arrest of their owners. “The confiscated products were found to be counterfeit and pose significant risks to both farmers and the environment,” NAFDAC stated.

The agency noted that the raid followed targeted intelligence gathering on illegal agrochemical distributors. “We urge citizens to purchase regulated products from verified sources to prevent health and safety hazards,” NAFDAC added.

Patriarc, a broad-spectrum pesticide and fertilizer, is designed to enhance plant growth and prevent diseases. It has become popular among farmers for its effectiveness in protecting crops such as maize, beans, and tomatoes. However, counterfeit versions of the product can be ineffective and harmful.

NAFDAC further warned the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest office.

The agency pledged to take swift regulatory action to uphold consumer safety and ensure the integrity of agrochemical products in the market.
