In a fresh wave of adjustments, Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) across Nigeria have once again increased prices for electricity meters, marking the second hike in just four months.
The rise, which takes effect on November 5, 2024, varies by provider and meter type, hitting consumers who have already been grappling with escalating living costs.
The revised prices, as announced on the social media platform X, are attributed to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) ongoing push for deregulation in the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme.
This change, according to DisCos, aims to give meter vendors more pricing freedom, though it has also led to divergent pricing for single-phase and three-phase meters across different regions.
The adjusted prices are as follows:
Eko DisCo: Single-phase meters now range from N135,987.5 to N161,035, while three-phase meters cost between N226,600 and N266,600.
Ibadan DisCo: Single-phase meters are priced at N130,998 to N142,548, and three-phase meters fall between N226,556.25 and N232,008.04.
Abuja DisCo: Customers can expect single-phase meters to cost between N123,130.53 and N147,812.5, with three-phase options from N206,345.65 to N236,500.
Kano Electricity: Meter prices here are set at N127,925 to N129,999.75 for single-phase and N223,793 to N235,425 for three-phase.
The new prices underscore the impact of sector deregulation on the availability and cost of essential services, with consumers expressing heightened concern over the rising costs of access to stable electricity.
