Gov Uba Sani Receives Released Kaduna Minors

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has officially received a group of children from the state who were released after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s executive order.

The release followed public outcry regarding the children’s arraignment on treasonable charges related to their participation in protests in August 2024.

Governor Sani expressed his gratitude for the swift action taken by President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, who facilitated the children’s unconditional release.

Speaking to reporters after receiving the children from Vice President Shettima at the State House in Abuja, Governor Sani commended the federal government for its intervention, which led to the withdrawal of the charges.

“The children were handed over to me by the Vice President after the charges of treason against them were dropped,” Governor Sani said. “It was clear from our interaction that many of these children had been manipulated by ‘conflict entrepreneurs’ – individuals seeking to exploit them for personal gain and to incite unrest in Kaduna State, and Nigeria at large.”

The Governor assured the children that they would receive psychosocial counseling as part of their rehabilitation.

“We will ensure that those who are students are supported to return to school, while those with skills will be equipped with work tools and resources to help them become productive members of society,” he added.

During their meeting, Governor Sani said the children expressed remorse and promised to remain law-abiding and act as positive representatives of Kaduna State in the future.

As part of the rehabilitation process, the State Government plans to engage with the children’s parents and guardians to create a comprehensive plan that prioritizes their well-being and reintegration into the community.

Governor Sani concluded his statement by extending his thanks to President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, and all Nigerians who supported the cause.

“I want to especially thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his quick and compassionate response in securing the release of these children. I also appreciate Vice President Shettima for overseeing the smooth handover process. We are grateful for the voices of solidarity that came from all corners of the country.”

The case has sparked significant national debate, but the focus now shifts to rehabilitation and reintegration, with hopes that the children’s futures will be positively shaped by the intervention of both state and federal authorities.
