NEMA Trains Gombe, Bauchi Students in Disaster Preparedness

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has initiated a student-focused campaign across Gombe and Bauchi to promote emergency readiness. Targeting secondary schools, the campaign aims to equip young people with practical skills to manage crises effectively.

NEMA announced on its official X handle on Monday that the Gombe Operations Office spearheaded an initiative at Government Comprehensive Secondary School, Hassan, where a Disaster Risk Reduction club was established.

This club aims to equip students with essential knowledge on disaster response and risk mitigation. By incorporating this training into the school curriculum, NEMA is promoting a culture of active participation among students in enhancing community resilience.

“This program is about more than just teaching skills; it’s about building a culture of preparedness that students carry with them beyond the classroom,” stated a NEMA official. “With each session, we’re not only enhancing safety in schools but also nurturing a generation equipped to address and reduce vulnerabilities within their communities.”

This initiative reflects NEMA’s broader commitment to embedding disaster awareness in educational institutions, helping to ensure that schools in Gombe and Bauchi are better prepared for emergencies.
