Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his commitment to boosting agricultural productivity and processing through a partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

During a meeting with IFAD Country Director Mr. Dede Ekove, Governor Yusuf highlighted Kano’s strategic position in the agricultural value chain, particularly in rice production.

He emphasized the state’s potential to become a major hub for agro-processing, creating jobs and driving economic growth.

The partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement, will focus on the Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAPZ) program, with Kano State set to receive a significant budget of 130 million.

Dr. Kabir Yusuf, the SAPZ National Coordinator, noted that the program aims to strengthen local economies and ensure effective resource management.

Mrs. Ekove, the IFAD Country Director, commended Kano State’s proactive approach and urged the state government to adhere to the program’s objectives to maximize its impact on farmers and processors.

The IFAD team will be conducting a supervision mission to monitor the implementation of the program and ensure that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.
