The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced plans to vaccinate 3.8 million children against measles in four northern states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Plateau.
The seven-day vaccination campaign, which is set to commence on Saturday, aims to protect young children from the highly contagious disease.
Patrick Akor, Health Officer at UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office, stated that over 4 million doses of measles vaccine have been distributed across the four states.
Additionally, UNICEF will be launching an oral polio vaccination campaign targeting 6.8 million children aged zero to five years in five northern states: Taraba, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa.
UNICEF is working closely with the Nigerian government to ensure the success of these campaigns, providing logistical support, vaccines, and cold chain systems.
The organization is also actively engaged in advocacy and social mobilization efforts to inform the public about the importance of vaccination and to encourage parents to have their children immunized.
UNICEF urges media practitioners to help disseminate information about the vaccination campaigns to the general public, particularly those in rural areas.
