Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a registrar at the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, has been released after 10 months of captivity.

The medical doctor, along with her nephew, Folaranmi Abdul-Mugniy, was abducted on December 27, 2023.

Her husband, a Squadron Leader, was released earlier in March.

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) had been actively advocating for the release of Dr. Popoola and her nephew, organizing nationwide protests and urging the Federal Government to intervene.

On Wednesday evening, the captives were released by their abductors. NARD President, Tope Zenith Osundara, confirmed the news, stating that the doctor and her nephew are currently being shielded from the public and limited access is being granted.

Osundara emphasized that no ransom was paid to secure their release.
