Over 10,000 Registered for Lagos Women Run 2024

The organizers of the Lagos Women Run 2024 have announced that over 10,000 women have registered to participate in this year’s event, slated for November 9th.

Convener Tayo Popoola revealed that 7,895 women have registered online, with an additional 5,000 offline registrations.

The Lagos Women Run aims to promote sustainable development, women’s empowerment, and networking. This year’s theme, “More Than A Run,” includes an empowerment program focused on teaching women valuable skills to support themselves and their families.

According to Mrs Popoola, “Lagos Women Run is an advocacy for sustainable development. We are doing this because we believe we need a platform where women can support each other, communicate, and network, so Lagos Women Run is a networking platform for women.

“The theme is More Than A Run, it comes with an empowerment programme which is part of our focus to help, empower women and give them something reasonable to take back home that will put food on their table, that is why this year theme is More Than A Run, a lot of women will learn a lot of craft works.”

The event features a 10-kilometer run, starting at Tafawa Balewa Square and ending at Mobolaji Bank Anthony Arena, Onikan Lagos. Every participant will receive a special gift, and the empowerment program will run for three days at Teslim Balogun Stadium Hall.

Lagos State Governor has thrown his support behind the event, providing resources to ensure its success. Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Falolu, praised the organizers for promoting social and economic progress through the event.

Chairman of the Lagos State Athletics Association, Dr. Dayo Solomon Alao, commended the organizers for their consistent efforts to raise awareness on vital issues, such as cervical cancer, breast cancer, and infant mortality. The Association will support the 10th edition with a pasta party.

The Lagos Women Run has become a flagship event in Lagos State, celebrating the city’s beauty and promoting women’s empowerment.

With its impressive turnout, this year’s event promises to be an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike.
