Nigerian Military Arrests Top IPOB/ESN Leaders in Imo and Abia

The Nigerian Military has announced the arrest of Pius Iguh, a founding father of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security arm, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

This breakthrough was revealed by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

According to General Buba, Iguh was picked up in Imo State during a sting operation conducted by troops from Forward Base Operation FOB in the South East Theatre.

The suspect is allegedly a key figure in the ESN group, operating in the Orsu area of Imo State.

According to General Buba, “Troops  continue to  deepen operational successes across the various theatres of operation.

“For instance in the South East theatre, troops at FOB Orsu conducted a sting operation  that culminated in the arrest of an IPOB terrorist leader.

“The arrested terrorist leader, identified as Pius Iguh, is a founding father of ESN group in Orsu general area of Imo State.”

In another successful operation, troops from FOB Amaruku arrested Emmanuel Onwugu, an IPOB commander, in Mbano Local Government Area of Abia State.

These arrests signify significant progress in the military’s efforts to curb insurgency and terrorism in the region.

General Buba emphasized that the troops are committed to deepening operational successes across various theatres of operation.

The military’s proactive approach aims to disrupt and dismantle terrorist networks, ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.

The arrests of Iguh and Onwugu serve as a testament to the military’s unwavering dedication to combating terrorism and maintaining national stability.

General Buba added that during the week under review, troops neutralised 140 and 135 others were apprehended.

“Meanwhile, during the week under review, troops neutralised 140 and arrested 135 persons. Troops also arrested 18 perpetrators of oil theft and rescued 76 kidnapped hostages.

“In the SS, troops denied the oil theft of the estimated sum of One Billion Seven Hundred and Fifty One Million Eight Hundred and Eighty Six Thousand Five Hundred and Fifty Naira (N1,751,886,550.00) only.”, General Buba said.
