In a daring operation, troops from the 401 Special Forces Brigade have successfully rescued eight passengers kidnapped along the Zaki Biam-Tine Nune road in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The rescue mission was carried out after credible intelligence was received about the kidnapping incident.
This revelation was contained in a press statement released on Friday and signed by Abdullahi Lawal Osabo, Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations
401 Special Forces Brigade.
The troops swiftly mobilized to the scene and rescued a Hiace Bus belonging to Taraba Express International, which was traveling from Onitsha to Jalingo with 10 passengers, including the driver.
However, the kidnappers managed to escape with two passengers, leaving eight others to be rescued safely.
The rescued victims are in good condition and are being handed over to the relevant authorities. The troops are still combing the area to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining two passengers.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and insecurity in the region. Similar successful rescue operations have been carried out in the past by the 401 Special Forces Brigade and other security agencies.
The statement read in part, “The operation was conducted, following credible intelligence on an incident of kidnapping along Zaki Biam – Tine Nune road, Ukum LGA.
“Troops swiftly mobilized to the scene and rescued a Hiace Bus, belonging to Taraba Express International with Reg No KLD – 543XA, travelling from Onitsha to Jalingo with 10 passengers, including the driver.
“On arrival at the scene, weary that troops were closing up on them, the criminal elements absconded with two passengers, while 8 others were rescued successfully.
“In a follow-up operation, troops are combing the general area to ensure the other two passengers are rescued. The 8 rescued victims are a good condition as efforts are ongoing to hand them over to the relevant authority.”
