The Kano State Hisbah Board has confirmed the arrest of Auwal Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, in an uncompleted building with a married woman.

Outraged by the development, residents of Jigawa and Kano have called for sack of the commissioner, demanded that the Islamic law must apply to its full conclusion.

Also, the arrest of the commissioner has sparked widespread reactions, shock and condemnation on social media  with many calling for immediate action.

According to the board’s Director General, Abba Sufi, the arrest was made on Friday evening following intelligence reports about Sankara’s relationship with the married woman.

The commissioner was caught in the act with Tasleem Baba, the wife of Nasiru Bulama, who had filed a complaint against him with the police, DSS, and Hisbah Board.

Sufi stated that Sankara would face multiple charges, including operating an alleged illicit drugs center.

He added that the Hisbah Board had been monitoring Sankara’s activities due to reports of prostitution and drug addiction at his hotels.
