The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that two towers along its 330kV Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines 1 and 2 have been vandalized, leading to power outages in some areas of Kano and Kaduna states.
The damage to the transmission lines occurred on Friday, according to a statement released by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
The company suspects that bandits may be responsible for the vandalism, given the recent killing of 13 farmers in the Shiroro community.
The incident has caused significant disruptions in power supply to the affected regions, as the 330kV lines are critical for transmitting bulk power to the North West region.
TCN is currently working to deploy an emergency restoration system to the site while plans are underway to reconstruct the damaged towers.
“The vandalized Shiroro-Kaduna 330kV lines 1 and 2 are critical lines for transmitting bulk power to parts of the North West region.
“The vandalism of the towers and transmission lines presents a significant challenge to bulk power transmission in that area,” TCN stated.
The company has assured the public that it is committed to restoring power supply to the affected areas as soon as possible.
