Nigerian Military Records Successes Against Terrorism, Oil Theft in One Week

The Nigerian military has recorded significant gains in its fight against terrorism and oil theft, according to the latest reports from the Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai (North East). Between October 7 and 15, 2024, troops neutralized 54 terrorists, arrested 71 suspects, and rescued 39 kidnapped hostages.

The information was disclosed by Major-General Edward Buba, Director, Defence Media Operations

in the weekly press report of ongoing military operations by the Armed Forces of Nigeria as at 18th of October, 2024.

In the North East, 74 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists surrendered to troops in Borno and Adamawa states. Additionally, 29 suspected terrorists and informants were arrested, with recoveries including vehicles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and cash.

According to General Buba, troops also conducted successful fighting patrols, neutralizing 16 terrorists, rescuing three hostages, and recovering arms and ammunition in Borno and Adamawa states. Offensive operations yielded further successes, with 13 terrorists neutralized, seven suspects arrested, and arms and ammunition recovered.

In the North Central region, Operation Safe Haven arrested 36 violent extremists, rescued 46 kidnapped hostages, and neutralized five extremists in Plateau and Kaduna states.

Meanwhile, Operation Whirl Stroke arrested seven violent extremists and rescued 10 kidnapped hostages in Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba states.

Operation Hadarin Daji also recorded significant gains in the North West region, neutralizing 25 terrorists, arresting 29, and rescuing 32 kidnapped hostages across Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kebbi states.

These successes demonstrate the military’s commitment to protecting Nigerian citizens and combating terrorism. The recoveries of substantial arms and ammunition, as well as disruption of extremist financial operations, underscore the effectiveness of these operations.

The military’s efforts to combat terrorism and oil theft continue to yield positive results, ensuring peace and stability in the region.
