The Federal Government has pledged to assist Jigawa State in rebuilding and rehabilitating Majia Town, which was devastated by a fatal fuel tanker explosion on Tuesday evening.
Africa Health Report revealed that the explosion claimed the lives of 167 people.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, made the assurance during a condolence visit to the state on Thursday.
He conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s deep sorrow over the tragedy, emphasizing the president’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of Nigerian citizens.
Akume described the explosion as one of the worst incidents of its kind in the country’s history.
He announced that the president had ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and would take necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.
“The President has a special affection for Jigawa State and has implemented numerous development initiatives here,” Akume stated.
“He has instructed various government agencies to provide immediate aid to the victims and assist in rebuilding the community.”
Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who accompanied the Federal Government delegation, also expressed his condolences to the affected families.
He urged Nigerians to avoid the dangerous practice of scooping fuel from accident sites.
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Muhammed, confirmed that an investigation into the explosion was underway.
He announced that the corps would receive additional resources to enhance its efforts to reduce road accidents nationwide.
Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State thanked the Federal Government for the visit and praised President Tinubu for his consistent support and concern for the state and its people.
