Kano Governor Donates N100m To Jigawa Explosion Victims

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commiserated with the government and people of Jigawa State over the tragic petrol tanker explosion that occurred in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area.

Governor Yusuf paid a condolence visit to the state on Thursday, October 17, 2024, to express his solidarity and support to the affected families.

During his visit, Governor Yusuf announced a donation of ₦100 million to assist the victims of the explosion and their families.

He conveyed his heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the Kano state government and its citizens, emphasizing that any tragedy affecting Jigawa State also impacts Kano.

Also speaking, Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, expressed his gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his timely visit and generous donation.

He recounted that Governor Yusuf had reached out earlier in the day to offer condolences and subsequently decided to visit the affected area personally.

Governor Namadi revealed that the explosion had claimed the lives of over 167 people, leaving a devastating mark on the community.

He assured that the donated funds would be utilized effectively to provide relief and support to the victims and the families of the deceased.

The tragic incident has highlighted the urgent need for improved safety measures and regulations surrounding the transportation and handling of hazardous materials in Nigeria.
