The Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has praised Kano State for its vibrant digital landscape, calling it a representation of the future of not just Nigeria but Africa.

The Minister dropped the commendation on Monday during a visit to the city, emphasizing the importance of relocating the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to Kano, citing the potential benefits for the region’s youth.

He highlighted that Africa is a continent teeming with young people, with 60% of Nigeria’s population under the age of 25.

The minister underscored that bringing the NCC to Kano would provide a unique opportunity to upskill these young individuals and empower them to become leaders in the global technology industry.

He noted that Nigeria’s population grows by 5 million each year and that the NCC facility could play a crucial role in equipping these young people with the necessary skills.

The minister announced that his visit to Kano was not solely for inspection but also to assess the facility and its potential for renovation.

He assured that the government would invest in upgrading the facility within a few months.

Addressing concerns about youth involvement in criminal activities, the minister urged young people to avoid being misled by bad influences.

He emphasized that they are the hope for a brighter future and encouraged them to focus on positive endeavours.

In response to the unfortunate incident that occurred at the Digital Industrial Park (DIP) on August 1st, the Kano State Governor, represented by his deputy, expressed condolences to the Minister and the Ministry.

He assured the Minister that the state government is working diligently with security agencies and local stakeholders to apprehend the perpetrators of the looting.

The governor also announced that a significant portion of the looted equipment has been recovered.

In terms of policy development, he revealed that Kano State has approved the Kano State Digital Economy Policy (KSDEP), aligning with national and international best practices.
