A 32-year-old man, Lanre Ogungbe, was found dead in a hotel room at Authentic Hotel in Soyoye area of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, with a bottle of insecticide and an alcoholic drink beside his remains.
According to the Ogun Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the hotel owner reported the incident to the police after a staff member discovered Ogungbe’s lifeless body in his room.
The police investigation revealed that Ogungbe had checked into the hotel for a short rest. However, when the receptionist went to check on him, she found his body on the bed.
Police detectives found an empty bottle of “Lakoko” (an alcoholic drink) and a bottle of “Sniper” (a pesticide) beside Ogungbe’s body. There were no signs of violence on his body.
Ogungbe’s remains have been evacuated to the General Hospital in Ijaiye for medical examination and deposited in the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ogungbe’s death.
“We are working to determine the cause of death and whether foul play was involved,” Odutola said.
The incident has raised questions about the circumstances leading to Ogungbe’s death, with many awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.
