The Kano State Anti-Corruption and Public Complaints Commission has launched an investigation into a suspected foreign scholarship fraud involving a staggering N1.5 billion.

The investigation centers around a government-sponsored foreign scholarship program that aims to send 1,001 postgraduate students to study in India and Uganda.

The commission is questioning two high-ranking officials from the state Ministry of Higher Education in connection with the alleged scam.

The initiative was launched by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who recently hosted a farewell dinner for the first batch of 550 beneficiaries.

However, discrepancies have emerged, prompting the investigation.

While the government claims to have sent 1,001 students abroad, reports indicate that only 418 students have actually been confirmed to be studying overseas.

This raises questions about the whereabouts of the remaining 583 students and the potential misuse of public funds.

The Anti-Corruption Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Kabiru A. Kabiru, confirmed the investigation and stated that the two officials are being interrogated to shed light on the alleged fraud.

Kabiru emphasized that the commission is committed to uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable, regardless of their positions.

The investigation into this foreign scholarship fraud comes as a major concern for the Kano State government and the public.

If the allegations prove to be true, it would represent a significant misuse of public funds and a betrayal of the trust placed in government officials.
