The Nigerian Armed Forces have stepped up their efforts to combat terrorism, insurgency, and related activities across the country. Strategically deployed troops are working to dismantle terror networks and destroy terrorist capabilities.
This was contained in a press statement on the weekly report of ongoing military operations by the Armed Forces of Nigeria as at 10th of October, 2024, signed by General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations.
In recent operations, the report indicated that the military has made substantial gains, eliminating key terrorist leaders, including notorious commander Mai Hijabi in Jigawa State.
Troops have also neutralized 165 terrorists, arrested 238 suspects, and rescued 188 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, 35 oil theft perpetrators were apprehended, preventing the theft of N688,125,150 worth of oil.
On the recovery of stolen assets and eeapons, the report said the military has recovered 153 assorted weapons, 2,182 ammunition, and other items, including 81 AK47 rifles, 23 fabricated rifles, 27 dane guns, 13 pump action guns, 5 locally made pistols, 3 revolver pistols, 30 AK47 magazines and 1 bayonet.
“Furthermore, troops recovered 153 assorted weapons and 2,182 assorted ammunition. The breakdown as follows: 81 AK47 rifles, 23 fabricated rifles, 27 dane guns, 13 pump action guns, 5 locally made pistols, 3 revolver pistols, 30 AK47 magazines and one bayonet.
“Others are: 1,561 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 278 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 70 rounds of 50mm ammo, 72 rounds of 9mm ammo, 87 live cartridges, one baofeng radio, 19 vehicles, 21 motorcycles, 45 mobile phones and the sum of N64,100.00 only amongst other items.”, the statement read.
Furthermore, troops within the time frame, discovered and destroyed illegal refining sites, recovering 789,200 liters of stolen crude oil and 64,950 liters of illegally refined AGO.
As part of its effort’s commitment to peace and security, the military said it recognized the urgency to ensure peace and security nationwide and is working on new strategies to better protect citizens. The Armed Forces caution against making threats or inflammatory comments that may jeopardize ongoing operations.
