Worker’s Indefinite Strike Hits NAFDAC as Snr Staff Downtool over Welfare, Promotion, Others

The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) has declared an indefinite strike involving employees of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) due to unresolved promotion controversies and welfare concerns.

This action follows unsuccessful negotiations with NAFDAC management, with workers expressing frustration over unmet demands. “This decision stems from NAFDAC Management’s failure to address critical issues outlined in our communiqué,” stated Dr. Ejor Michael, Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Key unresolved issues include a review of the 2024 promotion examination results, the appointment of directors, and timely disclosure of performance evaluation scores. The workers also seek a psychology officer cadre and resolution of salary arrears dating back to 2022.

A communiqué issued dated October 4 emphasised the urgency of their demands: “The Congress considers this ongoing inaction insufferable,” it read, indicating that the strike will persist until all conditions are met.

As of October 7, employees are instructed to remove personal belongings from NAFDAC offices, where entry will be prohibited during the strike.

SSASCGOC coordinators are responsible for ensuring compliance, as the union seeks solidarity among its members.

“Industrial action will continue unabated until our demands are fully met,”the communiqué concluded, highlighting the seriousness of the situation for both workers and management.
