FG Partners US CDC, Launches Electronic Portal for Health Research Ethics C’ttee

The Federal Government has unveiled the National Health Research Ethics Committee (NHREC) Electronic Portal to modernize health research proposal approvals.

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, launched the portal, praising its potential to drive efficiency, transparency, and accountability.

“The electronic platform is more than just a technological tool; it’s a commitment to integrity and accountability in health research,” Dr. Alausa said.

The portal, developed with support from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, streamlines the submission process, reduces delays, and protects participants’ rights and dignity.

“This platform will significantly shorten approval timelines, fostering local and international research partnerships,” said Dr. Adeola Adeyeye of the US CDC.

Lagos State’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, endorsed the portal, saying it makes medical research “as easy as running a business.”

Daro Onimode of PHIS3 highlighted the benefits: “Researchers can now submit proposals online in real-time, eliminating the need for physical documents.”

NHREC member Professor Oliver Ezechi emphasized the portal’s security features: “Our worries about intellectual property are over. We now have a secured e-platform.”

The launch marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s health research governance, paving the way for data-driven innovation and advancements in clinical practice.
