The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has on Monday reduced bail for protesters involved in the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations to N5 million each.
Africa Health Reporter, AHR reported earlier that bail conditions were set at N10 million with requirements for substantial property in Abuja.
The decision preceeded by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Court comes as part of ongoing legal proceedings concerning the detainees from Kano and Abuja.
“The bail conditions are now more accessible,” Justice Nwite stated. “Each defendant must secure one responsible surety, related by blood.”
The court mandated that sureties provide two passport photographs and a valid phone number, with additional stipulations based on residency.
For defendants residing outside Abuja, a parent can act as surety, while those within the capital need a close relative with a verifiable address.
However, the judge imposed strict limitations, barring defendants from participating in or organising any public protests while they remain in custody.
The ten protesters, including Eleojo Opaluwa, Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, aka Michael Lenin, Angel Innocent, Mosiu Sodiq, Adeyemi Abayomi, along with five others arrested in Kano, Suleiman Yakubu, Buhari Lawal, Bashir Bello [Murtala], Nuradeen Khamis, Abdulsalam Zubairu.
As of today, Monday, October 7, AHR gathered that three protesters have reportedly met earlier bail conditions and secured their release, though many others continue to await their day in court.
