A cholera outbreak in Kanye Village, Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, has claimed the lives of seven people.
Reports of similar outbreaks in other parts of the state have recently affected 600 people and resulted in over 30 fatalities.
According to a report by BBC Hausa Service, the cholera outbreak on Saturday was triggered by consuming contaminated water following a flood in the area.
Over nine individuals were hospitalized due to the disease, while the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, expressed unfamiliarity with the specific incident.
However, he assured the public that health personnel would be deployed to investigate the matter.
The cholera epidemic underscores the urgent need for improved sanitation and access to clean water in Kano State, as UNICEF urged Lagos a few months ago.
