Maritime Academy of Nigeria’s Governing Board Inaugurated

The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron. The newly appointed board members were chosen for their individual accomplishments and capacity to advance maritime education in Nigeria [2).

In his inaugural speech, Oyetola emphasized MAN’s vision to equip youths with specialized maritime education and practical skills, preparing them for jobs in shipping, marine engineering, port operations, and logistics.

The academy has made significant strides, investing in modern classrooms, hostels, and advanced simulators, and updating its curriculum to align with international maritime standards.

Oyetola urged the board to align with the ongoing reforms in the Marine and Blue Economy sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He stressed the importance of synergy between the Governing Board and the Academy’s Management to ensure efficient functioning and academic excellence.

According to the Minster, “The Maritime sector is critical to our national development, and the success of our broader economic policies depends heavily on our ability to provide the required manpower. The Maritime Academy of Nigeria is central to this effort.

“To achieve this, it is essential that there is a strong and seamless synergy between the Governing Board and the Academy’s Management. Collaboration and mutual respect between both entities will ensure that the Academy functions efficiently and effectively.

“Your role is to provide strategic leadership and guidance, working closely with the management to create an environment that promotes academic excellence and practical training. The goal is to create a learning environment that not only meets national standards but also positions our graduates to compete on a regional and global scale.”

The Minister outlined the board’s role in providing strategic leadership and guidance, focusing on policy matters, and meeting quarterly. Other statutory members will join the board soon ¹. Oyetola congratulated the appointees, assuring them of his full support and encouragement.

With this new development, expectations are high for the Maritime Academy of Nigeria to reach greater heights. As the academy continues to play a critical role in Nigeria’s national development, its success will significantly impact the country’s economic policies.
