The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is set to launch its Strategic Action Plan for 2024-2028, marking the beginning of a new five-year roadmap.
This plan follows the successful implementation of the 2019-2023 plan, and its launch is expected to be attended by notable figures, including Senator George Akume, representing President Bola Tinubu, and supported by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC).
This was disclosed in a press statement released on Monday by Demola Bakare, the Spokesperson for the commission.
The event will also witness the unveiling of ICPC’s digital media podcast program, Ethicspod, the first of its kind by any anti-corruption body in West Africa. This innovative approach is part of ICPC’s efforts to tackle corruption using new media.
Other attendees include the Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption; Chairman, House Committee on Anti-Corruption, Hon. Kayode Moshood Akiotu; National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar.
ICPC’s strategic planning began in 2004, with each five-year plan assessing the Commission’s current standing, setting goals, prioritizing initiatives, and allocating resources to achieve its objectives.
This approach has enabled ICPC to refine its strategies and stay focused on its mission to combat corruption. The new Strategic Action Plan is expected to build on past successes and address emerging challenges.
The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, has emphasized the importance of strategic planning in achieving the Commission’s goals.
With the launch of the 2024-2028 Strategic Action Plan, ICPC is poised to continue its fight against corruption, supported by key stakeholders and leveraging innovative tools like Ethicspod.
“The Strategic Action Plan 2024-2028 will continue to focus on combating corruption through innovative methods and sustained action.
“More importantly, the Commission will also launch its biweekly podcast program aimed at amplifying anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria through the power of digital media.
“The launch of the podcast tagged “EthicsPod,” a youth-focused podcast spearheaded by ICPC, will be unveiled by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN,” Bakare stated.
The EthicsPod is designed to educate and engage young Nigerians on the importance of transparency, accountability, and fighting corruption.
This biweekly podcast will bring together experts, beneficiaries, victims, and key actors to share real-life stories, exposing the impact of corruption and empowering listeners with practical tools to resist and report corrupt practices.
Through EthicsPod, ICPC aims to foster a culture of integrity and accountability across Nigeria, continuing its mission to lead the charge against corruption.
By sharing personal stories and experiences, the podcast will provide a unique platform for Nigerians to understand the effects of corruption and take action against it.
As part of ICPC’s broader efforts to combat corruption, EthicsPod will play a vital role in promoting awareness and inspiring change among young Nigerians, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to fight corruption.
