Tragedy struck in Ekiti State when gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, killed 22-year-old Idown Oguntuase and abducted four persons.
The incident occurred along the Isan-Iludun Ekiti road in Ilejemeje local government area.
According to investigations by Africa Health Report (AHR), the victims were traveling on Sunday evening when the driver of the Ekiti State Commissioner for Local Government was allegedly shot and killed. The police were promptly notified, and a rescue operation was launched.
The Ekiti State police command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident. He reported that all four kidnapped victims have been rescued alive, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State government has taken steps to boost security and safeguard residents. Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd), Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, announced increased security efforts.
He emphasized the need for council chairmen to collaborate with the government to tackle insecurity.
During the State Security and Intelligence Committee’s third quarterly meeting, Ogundana stressed the importance of unity in combating insecurity.
