#EdoDecides2024: Collation of results Begins 10 am -INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that the collation of results from the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday will commence at 10 am (Sunday) today.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Edo State, Dr Anugbum Omuoha disclosed in a statement issued early Sunday.

“This is to inform the general public, stakeholders, and observers that the collation of results for the ongoing Edo State governorship election will resume today, Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 10 am,” the statement read.

Omuoha reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring the collation process follows the laid down guidelines, adding that the patience and cooperation of all parties involved were appreciated.

The Edo REC said, “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the parties as we strive to ensure a credible and accurate outcome of this important election,” he said.

The REC further appealed to all stakeholders to remain calm and orderly, stressing that INEC remains dedicated to delivering a free, fair, and transparent election in Edo State.

The REC assured the public that the collation process would be conducted with full transparency, in line with the commission’s existing regulations.

Onuoha had earlier said, “We will address infractions”.

While reacting to a controversial result sheet on Saturday, INEC said, “The Commission’s attention has been drawn to an allegation of wrong figures entered into polling unit result sheets in the ongoing Edo State Governorship election.”

“This is the second complaint we have received out of the 4,519 polling units used for the election. The Commission will immediately investigate the matter and deal with any proven infraction.”

The development comes after controversial figures were seen in the result of a Polling Unit in Etsako East.

Africa Health Report AHR in earlier report on Saturday disclosed that in the result which was uploaded on IREV, the All Progressives Congress (APC) garnered 352 votes from the unit which had only 213 accredited voters.

Many had stakeholders and voters had knocked the Commission over the trending result sheet.

As reported by our reporter, the development had sparked fresh controversy with residents and observers raising  doubts on the integrity of INEC as well as the credibility of the ongoing governorship election.

In the AHR’s report, the sheet shows, 493 voters were registered at the polling unit, with 213 voters accredited.
