In response to the devastating floods in Maiduguri, Borno Express Transport Corporation has launched an initiative to support relief efforts. The corporation will provide free transportation for donations from Abuja to Maiduguri, easing logistical challenges for compassionate individuals and organizations.
According to Mohammad Grema, General Manager of Borno Express, in a press statement released on Thursday, donations can be dropped off at their Jabi office in Abuja. He said the items would then be conveyed to Maiduguri and handed over to the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for distribution to flood victims.
The gesture, according Grema, aims to facilitate the flow of aid to those affected by the floods. Initially, the free transportation service will focus on donations from Abuja, with plans to expand to other states pending the success of the initiative.
The partnership between Borno Express and SEMA ensures that donations reach the intended beneficiaries efficiently. This collaborative effort demonstrates the corporation’s commitment to supporting the community during times of need.
The statement reads, “In light of the recent devastating flood in Maiduguri, we have received numerous inquiries from compassionate individuals and organizations outside Maiduguri who wish to donate to the affected victims but are hindered by logistical challenges such as transportation costs.
“To assist in this noble cause, Borno Express Transport Corporation is pleased to announce that we will convey donations from Abuja to Maiduguri free of charge. All donated items will be handed over to SEMA Borno State for onward distribution to the flood victims.
“We encourage donors to drop off their items at our Borno Express Office in Jabi, Abuja.
“We would eventually extend such to other states after examine the success of the Abuja Maiduguri. Together, we can help those in need.”
