Earth Tremors in Abuja: NGSA Reassures Residents

The Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) has assured residents of Mpape, Katampe, Maitama, and various other locations in the Federal Capital Territory that the recent earth tremors observed in these regions do not pose a serious danger to the environment.

In a statement issued by the NGSA’s Director-General, Professor Olusegun Ige, the agency indicated that it had been observing the tremors and stated that “the tremors are of low magnitude and do not present any threat.”

The Monitoring Station (NGSA-5) of the NGSA, located in Katampe, detected multiple ground movements from September 13 to September 17, 2024. The records indicate a single minor tremor on September 13, six events on the 14th, and more than 21 tremors of greater intensity on September 15.

Although there has been a rise in these tremors, the NGSA recommends that residents stay calm since the situation is being closely monitored.
