The Lagos State Government has announced that Eko Bridge will be closed and traffic diverted to facilitate emergency repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The repairs are scheduled to begin on Monday, September 16, and will last for eight weeks, with the bridge reopening in the second week of November.
According to the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repairs will be carried out in four phases, with intermittent full or partial closures of the bridge depending on the work schedule.
To minimize disruptions, motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the repairs. For those heading to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue, they can use the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and access Eko Bridge. Alternatively, they can access Costain to connect Eko Bridge and link to Apongbon for their destinations.
Other alternative routes include using Costain to connect Apongbon and link to Eko Bridge, or connecting to Funsho Williams Avenue through Costain. Motorists can also use Apapa Road from Costain to link Oyingbo and access Adekunle to link Third Mainland Bridge.
For those heading to Surulere, they are advised to use Costain to link Breweries and connect to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to reach their destinations.
The Lagos State Government urges motorists to plan their routes accordingly and cooperate with traffic management officials during the repairs.
